Indian Air Force was founded on 8 October 1932. The Indian Air Force is the world's fourth-largest operational Air force. Putting us ahead of Germany, South Korea, Egypt & Turkey. The Indian Air Force presently operates as many as 1,720+ aircraft with the strength of 140,139 active personnel.
It was only after our independence that the Air Force was christened IAF.
Ram Nath Kovind serves as commander-in-chief of the Indian Air Force.
The first Air Marshal of IAF was not an Indian. Sir Thomas Walker Elmhirst, born in England, was the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force.
At present Arjan Singh is the only officer of the Indian Air Force who has been promoted to five -star rank, which makes him the Marshall of the Indian Air Force.
During the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965, the IAF went on to defeat the Pakistan Air Force which was superior in a considerable manner possible. The Sukhoi Su-30MKI, IAF's front line fighter jet, stands amongst the most elite fighter jets in the world.
